TMJ Therapy

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts as a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull, with one on each side of your jaw. Stress-induced jaw clenching can cause significant pain on one or both sides, impacting your ability to concentrate, interact with others, and sleep.
Jaw pain can be tough to diagnose, sometimes requiring medical intervention, and can make eating uncomfortable. Causes may include genetics, arthritis, injury, or teeth grinding. Fortunately, many people find relief through massage therapy.
Symptoms of TMJ Disorders:
- Jaw pain or tenderness
- Pain in one or both TMJ joints
- Aching around the ear
- Pain or difficulty while chewing
- Clicking or grating sounds when opening your mouth
- Facial pain
- Difficulty opening or closing your mouth
Risk Factors:
- Rheumatoid or osteoarthritis
- Jaw injury
- Long-term teeth grinding or clenching
- Connective tissue diseases
The masseter muscle, responsible for chewing and jaw clenching, often contributes to TMJ pain. While people often massage their temples during a headache, the masseter muscle is usually neglected despite its powerful role in jaw tension.
A TMJ-focused massage targets the jaw, face, head, neck, and shoulders, including intra-oral work with gloved hands to release tension. You can also combine this with a full-body massage—just book a longer session and inform your therapist.
Our skilled and compassionate staff can help you find relief through specialized massage therapy.
